OUR CHURCH

St. Luke’s Anglican Church.  Who are we?  What do we do?  How do we follow Christ’s mandate for ministry as declared in Matthew 28:18–20?

“ Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

We, at St. Luke’s refer to ourselves as ”The People’s Church”.  That acknowledgement comes from our history as a Church “planted” by the combined efforts the existing Anglican communities at Christ Church, Cataraqui, and St. George’s Cathedral.  Blended together with the former Anglo Catholic Community of All Saint’s, St. Luke’s was founded as a “Free Church” – meaning that there were no “Pew Rentals”, which allowed those of little financial resources to be able to  attend without the then customary need to rent a space at worship.

Starting with the three-fold foundation of Word, Sacrament and tradition, and being grounded in the teaching of Apostles, with the direction of the Holy Spirit, the people of St. Luke’s take what they learn in their worship and educational experiences, and share it with the community around them.  St. Luke’s is all about ministry – ministry to those around us who face numerous challenges in life.  We strive to provide resources and opportunities in an attempt to lighten the burden of others and to provide a safe and happy place for people to come.  We do this in a number of ways with our own sponsored and resourced programming as well as working in conjunction with a number of community partners with whom we share a vision of Prayerful support.  And we do it all in a spirit of co-operation, participation, and joy – we have a good time just being people who want to share what they have with people.  We call this a Family.

Come and check us out.  Come to one of our many ministries and activities.  Join us for any of our variety of worship experiences.

"Then the Lord will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,  I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'  "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?  When did we see you a stranger and invite you in or needing clothes and clothe you?  When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'

"The Lord will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

(Matthew 25:34-40)
