Positive COVID Case at St. Luke's Polling Station

Dr. Hugh Guan, Associate Medical Officer of Health for Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington (KFL&A) Public Health has confirmed a COVID-19 positive case at the electoral polling station held at St. Luke’s Anglican Church. KFL&A Public Health recommends that individuals who attended this polling station between 9 p.m. and 12 a.m. (midnight) self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 for 10 days.

To the best of our knowledge only one parishioner was present in the building at the time of the occurrence. That individual was notified and is following the stated guidelines but went for a test as well for peace of mind.

The transmission of the virus predominantly occurs through droplets in the air (aerosols). Our current protocols of cleaning, masks, and physical distancing make St. Luke’s a safe place to worship.

  • The services will continue to be available online each Sunday.

  • Be sure to use your washroom and use good hygiene habits before leaving your home.

  • Be sure to have a clean mask for your use at the Church.

  1. Upon Arrival at the Church

  • Access to the church will be staggered under the direction of an Usher to allow for social distancing.

  • Parishioners will enter by one clearly marked entrance door only and will exit by a different door. (With the exception of those requiring the elevator and those using the elevator will be assisted by the same individual on the way in and out.)

  • Pre-screening questions will be read, and a receptionist will record the parishioner’s attendance for the purpose of contact tracing. (These records will be kept for three years.)

  • A hand sanitizing station will be used by parishioners before proceeding into the sanctuary.

  • Offerings will be dropped in a collection plate at the sanctuary door as the parishioner enters.

  • Seating will be in designated spots in the pews to ensure social distancing. At all times, people of different households/bubbles/pods are to stay six feet apart from each other, both outside and inside the building (including no handshakes, fist pumps or elbow taps).

  • Bring your coat, and personal Kleenex and water bottle to your seat. Please take the same items with you at the end of the service.

  • Masks are always to be worn inside the building. Extra masks will be available.

  • Front seating is to be filled first so that parishioners are not required to walk by fellow congregants.

  1. The Service

  • For the Amber Stage, the service will be abbreviated to limit potential exposure.

  • There will be no memorial flowers for the duration of the Amber Stage. People wishing to make memorials to loved ones may make donations to the PWRDF or a food ministry.

  • Clergy, musicians, soloists will already be in their seats prior to the service.

  • Readers and Intercessors will read from their seat and without a microphone.

  • There may or there may not be Communion at the beginning of the Amber Stage.

  • There will be no congregational singing, physical exchange of the peace, and if there is Communion it will only be of one element (the Bread) which will be received as parishioners leave the Sanctuary.

  • After the Benediction parishioners will leave by the front door of the Sanctuary and will receive Communion to be eaten upon leaving the building.

D: Post Service

  • Please do not congregate on the church property and maintain social distancing as you return to your vehicles and homes.

  • The church will be sanitized according to agreed upon Diocesan Protocols. But it is presumed that all doorknobs, railings, used pews and the elevator will be sanitized.

  • The Altar Guild will set the Sanctuary for the next service on Thursday morning. Only one member will be involved in this ministry each week on a rotational basis as the Sacristy is too small for adequate social distancing.

  • There will be no coffee, lunches or social time following the service during the Amber Stage and the kitchen is closed until further notice.

It is understood that the church may be closed again by order of the Bishop of Ontario; the Kingston Frontenac Lennox & Addington Health Unit; the Provincial or Federal Governments due to non-compliance with their regulations or an increase in instances of the pandemic.  Any updates from the local Health Unit will be put into the plan and such revisions will be sent out to the people in the congregation.
